Getting Started with Virtualmin

Virtualmin is a free, open-source web hosting control panel built on top of Webmin. The GPL (free) edition is suitable for most hosting needs.

Requirements

  • Ubuntu 20.04/22.04, Debian 10/11, or CentOS/AlmaLinux/Rocky 8/9
  • Minimum 1 GB RAM (2 GB+ recommended)
  • Clean server — the installer configures everything from scratch

Installation

wget https://software.virtualmin.com/gpl/scripts/virtualmin-install.sh
bash virtualmin-install.sh

The installer takes 10–20 minutes and configures Apache or Nginx, MySQL/MariaDB, Postfix, Dovecot, SpamAssassin, and BIND DNS.

Access Virtualmin

Navigate to https://YOUR_SERVER_IP:10000 and log in as root.

Complete the Post-Installation Wizard on first login to configure memory limits, DNS, and spam settings.

Create a Virtual Server (Domain)

  1. Click Create Virtual Server
  2. Enter the domain name
  3. Set an admin username and password
  4. Enable the features you need (website, email, databases)
  5. Click Create Server
